Indiana is home to thirteen cat cafes, with cafes in nearly every corner of the state. Indiana first leaped onto the Cat Cafe Map in 2016 with the opening of Nine Lives Cat Cafe in Indianapolis. Growth has been steady to where eight of the ten largest cities in the state now have cat cafes. 2023 was the cat’s pajamas with a 67% rise in the number of cafes. Sadly, the wonderful Catmosphere Cat Cafe in Terre Haute is set to close in mid-May, citing challenging the small business environment and other reasons. Happily, they had two strong years and adopted out over 300 cats.
The Hoosier State also features a unique East Central Indiana gem: Cat Tales Bookstore, a giant used bookstore where visitors can browse alongside adoptable cats. Always
